EXHIBITION #4: THE CRY 'IN COLOUR'
PAINTING # 34: REACH!
" I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus." - Philippians 3:14

'Reach !' by Alton Felix. 2021. Acrylic on canvass.
Artist's Commentary:
This painting is dedicated to Lynette "Granny" Luces. She was an iconic long-distance runner who competed up to her late eighties, and was affectionately known as "Granny." She won the admiration of many who attended events just to see her run. She encouraged many, especially young persons, to follow their dreams, and never give up. Although she started running marathons at a late age, her many achievements, accolades and awards in the sporting arena are repeated testimonies that one is never too old to following one's dreams.
On 18 February, 2021 she ran her last race with life and died at the age of 93. Ironically her running number from a file photo was 093. Granny's life continues to be a source of great inspiration to all. This legendary runner showed immense dedication, persistence and courage. She trained hard and feared no competitor.
Like life, long-distance running is often lonely and grueling. However, Granny showed us what was possible when we put our trust in God. The painting is aptly called 'Reach!' and shows Granny running and pressing towards the prize!
"The race is not given to the swift or to the strong but to the one who endures to the end" - Ecclesiastes 9: 11 & Matthews 24:13
In our individual races and challenging circumstances, let's all continue to press towards the mark for the ultimate prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
On behalf of the countless lives you have positively impacted, 'Thank you, Lynette "Granny" Luces for a life well-lived.' May your soul rest in eternal peace.
Be blessed.

PRAYER
Heavenly Father,
Thank You Lord for the life of Lynette "Granny" Luces. She has taught me that age should never be a barrier to achieving my goals. With a mind to work, coupled with persistence and prayer, all things are possible through God.
As I pursue my divine purpose, help me to be steadfast and to press toward the mark for the
ultimate prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
Even though I may feel lonely at times, let me always remember that You are always near. In this race called 'life,' I put my trust in You. Thank You for divine protection, health and strength to endure to the end of my race. In Jesus' name I pray with thanksgiving. Amen.
