Going Beyond Boundaries...

Art of Prayer

#5:  TEACH ME TO TRULY LOVE OTHERS!

If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?’ – 1 John 4:20.

ART OF PRAYER #5: TEACH ME TO TRULY LOVE OTHERS

Heavenly Father,

I thank You for Your Word which brings comfort to me. Teach me how to truly love those who have wronged me. For 1 John 4:20 is clear:

‘If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?’

For how can I truly love You, O Lord, yet harbour resentment and anger towards another.

Give me the grace and strength, since it is not always easy to forgive and love those who caused my hurts and pain.

Yet, Your Word is clear. I must love my 'brother': Even those  who dislike or hurt me, and who I consider to be my enemies.

1 Peter 4:8 says,

And above all things have fervent love for one another, for “love will cover a multitude of sins.”’

Give me a heart of fervent love to all.

I confess that when I was a sinner, You still loved me, and sent Your Son to save me.

In my imperfect state, You continue to love me. Let me always be mindful of this, so that I too can show unconditional love to others.

Even now I thank You for forgiving me and ‘covering’ my sins by the precious blood of Jesus Christ, so that they will no longer be remembered.

In Jesus’ name I pray with thanksgiving. Amen.
