PAINTING # 29:  DREAM MAKER

"Thou hast been my help; leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation." - Psalm 27:9

.

'Dream Maker'   by  Alton Felix. 2015.  Acrylic on canvass.

Artist's Commentary:

I aimlessly walk the streets with my life’s possessions in one bag. I find rest for my tired feet on the benches of Woodford Square. I pretend - until night falls - that I am the happy faces that pass me by.

I am afraid to sleep at night for fear of being robbed and raped. But the moment that my eyes close, I begin to dream. I dream of the house in which I could not  live by self in peace. Bandits daily broke the locks, and if I were lucky they only stole the little possessions they found.

I dream about a social service that I wish could respond much faster to my pleas for help. As my body grows weaker, and my mind becomes more unstable daily,  I pray for a speedy response from the kind lady who interviewed me.

I dream of being able to sit in a fast-food palace and enjoy a lavish meal of a mini pizza, or fried chicken and chips.

My eyes are filled with tears as I dream of my two children who are now without a mother’s love. I dream of a man, sent by God, to call my own and to protect me from life’s dangers, and to bring stability once again to my life. I dream of a happy home – the way it used to be before ‘hard times’ fell upon me.

In spite of it all, I dream of God’s continued provision during the years that I roamed these cold and dangerous streets. He promised that He will never leave me nor forsake me.

Then, at the sound of thunderous footsteps,  I open my eyes to face reality once again…apprehensive and alone.

Be blessed.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for Your many blessings upon my life. I pray for the homeless, the poor and needy. Use me to help alleviate their plight in some meaningful way. I pray for Your Hand of provision, protection and mercy upon street dwellers, especially women. Provide them with places of shelter and their daily sustenance of food and clothing. Let Your love shine upon them. Touch their hearts and minds so that the difficult challenges that they face do not steal their peace and joy. Comfort them and connect them with the right people to help them out of that place of misery and suffering. Let them see Christ in the good works of those who You have called to this ministry. Let their be an outpouring of compassion, love and empathy towards them.  I pray also for greater resources for the social services agencies. Let there be a higher turn-over in the number of needy persons, especially our women,  who are readily assisted with the necessary grants, food cards and accommodation.

O Lord, mend broken family relationships, and turn the very situations around which were responsible for their homelessness. Give our homeless the  courage amidst their trials, and strengthen their resolve to serve You in spirit and in truth.

I curse the works of darkness over their lives, especially  spirits of witchcraft,  drug addiction, prostitution and mental sickness and the likes. I declare that chains are broken over them, and decree that the perfect will of God will be accomplished in their lives.

Thank You, O Lord, for my  answered prayer. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
